Research: The number of food-stamp recipients increased 9.2 percent in two years in El Paso County and 34 percent statewide, according to statistics complied by the Texas Health and Human services Commission. Statewide, the number of food- stamp recipient gas reached 1,423,361 up from 1,034,94 for the same period in 2008- a 34 $ increase. In 2009 nearly 66.8% of Texas adults were either overweight or obese. If Texas were to invest $10 per person per year in proven community-based programs to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, and prevent smoking and tobacco use, our state could save $1 billion annually within five years through reductions in health care spending. In 2009, 15.6% of Texas high-school students were reported to be overweight and 13.6% were obese. about 44% of the total population in the united states eats at a fast food restaurant once per week, as opposed to 28% that never eat at a fast food. The other 28% eats at a fast food place more than twice per week.
